Meet Ben Skipper: 25 Years of Heavy Equipment Rental in Boerne, Texas

Call the number on this website and I'll answer it.

That sounds like a small thing. Anybody who has spent an afternoon on hold with a national rental chain, working through a phone tree while a crew of six stands around a jobsite doing nothing, knows it isn't. When a machine goes down or a job scope changes on a Tuesday morning, you don't need a ticket number. You need a person who knows your name, knows what's sitting on your site, and can tell you in about ninety seconds whether he can fix it today.

That's the business I built. I'm Ben Skipper, and this is Post Oak Machinery.

Twenty-five years in, and I still like the machines

I've spent about twenty-five years in the heavy equipment market — buying it, selling it, renting it, moving it, and learning the hard way what separates a machine that earns its keep from one that eats your schedule.

Post Oak Machinery is the result of that. We're a locally owned, independent equipment rental agency and construction equipment supplier based on IH-10 in Boerne, and we've been a proud member of the Independent Equipment Dealers Association (IEDA) since 2013. We serve contractors across San Antonio, Austin and the Hill Country — and, more often than you'd guess, clients on the other side of the world.

What "independent" actually buys you

Independent isn't a marketing word around here. It's the whole model, and it changes what you get.

A dealer tied to one manufacturer has to sell you what's on his lot. That's not a knock on him — it's his job. But it means the conversation starts with the machine and works backward to your problem.

We start with your problem. Post Oak carries Caterpillar, Volvo and Komatsu, and because we're not carrying anybody's flag, I can tell you honestly when the smaller machine is the right call, when you'd be better off with a different brand than the one you asked for, and when you shouldn't rent at all — because buying, or waiting three weeks, is the smarter play for your balance sheet.

I'd rather lose a rental this month and keep you as a customer for the next decade.

Renting in Boerne means the machine is already close

Geography matters more in this business than people expect.

We're at 28720 IH-10 West, which puts us right on the corridor between San Antonio and the Hill Country, and inside easy reach of Austin. For a contractor working Kendall, Bexar, Comal or Bandera County, that proximity translates into real money:

  • Lower freight. Short hauls cost less than long ones. Every time.
  • Faster response when something goes sideways. A machine down on Wednesday shouldn't still be down on Friday.
  • Machines picked for this ground. Hill Country dirt isn't dirt. It's caliche, limestone and rock, and a machine spec'd for East Texas gumbo will disappoint you here. I've watched it happen. I'd rather you didn't have to.

What we rent

Our fleet runs the earthmoving and site-prep spectrum:

  • Excavators
  • Dozers
  • Motor graders
  • Wheel loaders
  • Articulated trucks
  • Rollers and compaction equipment
  • Water trucks

Every machine that leaves our yard is well maintained, clean and sound. Low hours where we can get them. If a machine isn't good enough for me to put my name on, it isn't going on your jobsite.

And if we don't have what you need sitting on the yard? Through the IEDA network, I can usually find it. That's the quiet advantage of being independent — a national and international dealer network behind a local phone number.

Rent it, lease it, trade it, or buy it

Most rental companies rent. That's it. We rent, lease, trade and sell, which means we can build the structure around what your project and your books actually need — not around what we happen to be set up to do.

Renting a dozer for a sixty-day job is one conversation. Renting it with the option to buy because you suspect you'll need it for the next three jobs is a different one. Trading in a machine you've outgrown is a third. We can have all three.

And because we're in the market every day, we know what iron is genuinely worth — not the auction fantasy, not the trade-in lowball, but real, current world market value. If you're sitting on a machine and wondering what it's worth today, call and ask. I'll tell you straight, whether or not there's a deal in it for me.

We live here too

Boerne isn't a market on a map to us. It's home. We sponsor the Boerne Little League and we intend to be here long after the current building boom cools off, which is a reasonable thing for you to factor in when you decide who to trust with your uptime.

Let's talk

Whether you need an excavator for a week, a grader for a season, or an honest opinion on what your machine is worth, the fastest way to get it is to pick up the phone.
